What We’ve Learned. Diabetes Blog Week Day #7

What We’ve Learned.  Diabetes Blog Week Day #7
I learned that…
Coming out of the closet this past year wasn’t nearly as scary as I thought it would be.  Don’t freak out (or get excited) Hubby, I’m talking about the Diabetes closet.  :D  I hid my diabetes for far too long, I’ll never do that again.
There are kids out there, tiny ones even, that make Bruce Lee look like a wimp.  Diabetic kids are the toughest little people, nothing but love and respect for those little warriors – and their moms!!!!
The Diabetic online community is SO tight knit.  I am thankful to have met you all and hope that we stay in contact…by the way, did someone say D-Prom?!?!?
I am already working on hairstyles for D-Prom…how about this one?

Kidding!  The above image is from the Diabetic Living photo shoot…I will freak out at any moment and pull it off this wall.  Geez hubby, did you really have to zoom in so tight???  Yikes!
On a serious note, I have never experienced warmth from people I never met like I did over this past week.  As long as we are in this boat, it’s nice to know someone will toss a lifesaver, even dive in after us, if we should fall.  Thanks to EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU IN THE DOC for being such a lifesaver.  :)

  2. Thanks Vivian! I love this community!!! Oh, and I should have added a disclaimer..the hair is due to the fact that the Hairstylist was trying to impose a "slight wave" into my stick-straight hair. :)

  3. This is awesome! "Coming out of the closet" is a great way to put it. I also was in there for 7 years until now. I am so happy I have a place to have open discussion with other people affected my diabetes. I also love the hair style :)

  9. D-Prom sounds great! But it's still years away for my little babies :) I love that you have found such a tight knit and loving community of life savers. They have been my life savers too (I think my hubby would have eventually left mentally if I didn't stop talking to him about D-stuff!) It's definitely a great place to vent, ask questions, learn something new, and just love each other and send "cyber" {HUGS}. Welcome to the DOC and hope to see more of you in the future.

  11. For years, I kept my diabetes secret from most people - I never thought about it as coming out of the closet. Great way to put it & I am glad that you came out!

  12. Just came across your blog and really enjoyed reading your last few posts! I've had diabetes for 5 1/2 years and I found it really difficult to tell the friends who grew up with me and didn't know me as a diabetic. I didn't want anyone to feel bad for me or think I was weak. Now I realize that it doesn't have to be like that!
